January is a party month in brazil with events all over Brazil the pipa festivals are held to pay homage to Saint Sebastian (San Sebastian) who was the patron saint of Pipa. the party takes place over 3 days with street parties and live bands playing through the night - February
- Carnival Wednesday (after Shrove Tuesday) in Pipa is a hoot! Usually all the tourists from nearby Recife have gone home and it's party time for the locals. For the last six years the local men have all dressed up in drag and partied up and down the main street from the early afternoon into the night. It is hilarious and really good fun. It may not have the glamour of Rio or the music and dance of the carnivals in Recife and Salvador but it is solid good fun.

- In Aug you can find one of the slighlty stranger tradishions in pipa as since 2005 Pipian Missinho has organized one of Pipa’s best parties the “Festa à Fantasia” which is a costume party with people dressing up like cartoon characters pirates, soliders, tramps, vampires, ghosts sailors you name it just about any sort of characters you can imagine and is now established as an annual event in the streets of pipa.

- If you are a fan of your food then you will not want to miss out on the Culinary Food Festival in pipa it is at the start of October with the Gastronomic Festival.
This is a kind of contest among the restaurants of Pipa (participation is voluntary). Each restaurant should prepare a new plate especially for the Festival, using mostly regional products (which include fish and seafood); price is limited to R$ 15. Juries composed by gourmets and customers will elect the best recipes.
Pipa is one of the places in the Northeast of Brazil with the best selection of restaurants. This is an excellent opportunity to taste delicious food for reasonable prices.

- And of course at the end of dec it is time to celibrate the end of the year and the start of a new one we went down to the beach in pipa for the big party with 25k others bands dj's fireworks and my first new years eve on the beach what a great time we had with the party going on long after the sun has come up
